AVAILABLE RECORDINGS:

The "Get Back" Sessions create a unique situation in describing the available recordings. In addition to the 8 track reels, the performances were also recorded by the film crew on 7"x 1/4" Nagra recorder reels. So, while we don't have all the 8 track recordings, we do have most of the performances as recorded on the Nagra reels.

The focus of the E.M.I. Tapes section of this site is the multi-track tapes. However, in this case, as with the rest of the "Get Back" Session tapes, in order to provide as detailed description as possible, information about the Nagra reels, as they relate to the multi-track tapes, has been included.

Generally, the Nagra reels offer a glimpse at what a performance was like but, in addition, they frequently offer recordings of playbacks of the multi-track tapes. This helps define exactly what is on the multi-track tapes.

The number references for each listing are numbers assigned to each performance by Doug Sulpy in "The 910's Guide To The Beatles' Outakes Part Two" Fourth Edition.

It should be noted that the inclusion of 22.15 and even 22.17 is speculative. The multi-track reels hold approximately just over 30 minutes of audio. All of the performances listed below total approximately 32 minutes. So it would be possible for all of them to fit on one reel. But that is not to say that the entire reel was used.

UNAUTHORIZED RELEASES:

Dig A Pony
[DDSI 22.15]
This song is complete on Nagra reel 415A.
It is implied on the Nagra reel and by Doug Sulpy that this take might have been recorded on the 8 track. However, this is not conclusive. A different souce states that it is NOT on this reel. There is no playback for this take so perhaps it was not recorded.
See the note for [22.23] in the entry below.

Dig A Pony [DDSI 22.17]
This song is almost complete on Nagra reel 416A (the first few seconds is missing). A quiet 43 second playback of the end of
the song is heard on Nagra reel 416A. Another 20 second playback of what might be part of the missing beginning is on Nagra reel 1014B.

brief discussion about Canned Heat
Going Up The Country
[DDSI 22.20]
This performance is complete on Nagra reels 416A and 1014B. However, per the dialogue on the Nagra reels, it could indicate that Glyn might have stopped the tape at anytime during the song. So perhaps, not all of the song is on the 8 track. But he could also have let it run right into the next performance.

Dig A Pony [DDSI 22.21]
This is complete on Nagra reel 416A.
No playback is available.
This is on "Anthology 3" from the 8 track.

Dig A Pony w/ false start and reprise rehearsal of the ending [DDSI 22.23]
An off-line recording of what is probably a mix tape (not this specific reel) of the complete main performance can be heard on "File Under: Beatles" Gnat Records (from "the boardroom tape"). This is likely a 1982 era remix. The performance is complete on Nagra reel 417A.
A 10 second playback of the end of the reprise is heard on Nagra reel 1014B.
NOTE: Doug Sulpy indicates that Glyn "spools the tape backwards" prior to this performance. If he means backwards over 22.21 , this would seem inaccurate since this performance as well as 22.21 are known to have survived. Also, after this performance, Glyn tells George Martin that they have two takes and John replies, "can we hear both of them?" If 22.21 and 22.23 have survived, what about 22.15 and 22.17? Or did they mean two 'good' takes?

Dig A Pony [22.29]
This is only heard on Nagra reel 418A.
