AUCTION DESCRIPTION: The Beatles A Hard Day's Night Brian Epstein's UK Test Pressing 1964. (Parlophone Stamper Numbers YEX 126-1, YEX 127-1) Without a doubt, this is one of the most incredible Beatles items ever offered. Originally acquired in 1995 from the collection of legendary historian & author Gareth Pawlowski, this was Brian Epstein's personal advance test pressing of the UK "A Hard Day's Night" LP. It actually consists of two one-sided STEREO discs, both of which feature Epstein's handwriting on the labels. This has been confirmed by our autograph expert Frank Caiazzo. Pawlowski was given this item directly from Queenie Epstein, Brian's mother. 1960s UK test pressings in general are extremely scarce and rarely offered for sale, much less one of this caliber. Very few copies were pressed (possibly less than 50 of any given title) and they were only distributed to music industry insiders. Also included are the original cardboard jackets that housed these discs. They are dated 24 June and 25 June, 1964 and also have the stamper numbers written on them. One jacket has Brian Epstein's notes handwritten on the front concerning two non-EMI recording artists, their song titles, record labels and catalog numbers. Disc 2, Track 2 has a small indentation that appears to be a factory flaw. When played it causes a rumbling noise but plays through. Disc 1 VG+, Disc 2 VG, Jackets VG. A truly historic Beatles record collectible! RECORDING HISTORY: See an "A Hard Day's Night" acetate here Disc 1 above Disc 2 left |
